About HardCoat, Inc.
40 Years of Quality Service
HardCoat Incorporated has been providing aluminum anodizing finishing services to the Twin Cities and surrounding states since 1974. In 2007, CEO/President Michael Kelner purchased HardCoat Inc., transforming the company from a limited regional service provider to a leading anodizer across the United States and abroad. By relocating the company to a new state-of-the-art facility and qualifying for the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP), HardCoat is now serving the aerospace, defense, medical, and commercial industries with certified quality, unmatched delivery, and competitive pricing.
Facilities: Designed for Precision and Environmental Care
HardCoat built a new state of the art facility in 2012 that meets the needs of our aerospace, defense, medical and commercial customers. Specially designed to care for our local environment, the HardCoat system is designed to minimize waste stream and environmental footprint. The property includes a waste-treatment plant and a recycling process that has a built-in acid purification system. This enables us to purify the anodize tanks on a continuous basis, allowing us to recycle unwanted waste and provide our customers with the cleanest, brightest surfaces. Our facility produces heat for the tanks generated by steam rather than electricity, and uses water from HardCoat’s on-site well for bath makeup. The system converts untreated well water into both reverse osmosis and deionized water.

NADCAP Certification
Hardcoat is certified by the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program in both chemical processing approval certification and quality systems certification. We were recently elevated to an Extended Merit Certification, which requires evaluation every two-years, instead of annually. Very few organizations in the country maintain this level of distinction with NADCAP.

Cautions When Anodizing
While our processes do improve the aesthetic and functional value of aluminum parts, it is important to understand that anodizing visually enhances all pre-existing conditions on the parts. Cleaning the parts prior to anodizing removes debris, dirt, and oil so that the end result is bright and clear. Anodizing will enhance and protect the surface, but it will not correct or eliminate scratches, dings, or discoloration in the parts.
The anodizing process requires parts to be fixed to racks that hold them tightly during the various baths and treatments. Wherever the racks touch the parts, the surface will not be changed. HardCoat works with our customers to find the most inconspicuous, appropriate racking locations prior to processing. By racking parts on blind holes, tapped holes or through holes, the process leaves no visual voids in the surface applied. HardCoat Inc. will work with you to develop solutions for the most challenging and intricate parts, ensuring that your aluminum parts will perform as designed.
